May Update – Charity of the Year!
It has been an extremely busy few months for us and there’s so much for you to catch up on!
We must start somewhere though, so were better than our recent triumph at the Goole & Howdenshire Business Awards 2023. We still can’t quite believe that we actually picked up the Charity of the Year award last month. It’s crazy!
It’s such a huge honour for us to have won after a modestly short period of activity. We’re still very much in our infancy as a charity but we don’t take accolades like this for granted and we owe an awful lot to all of the amazing people that have supported us since we launched last July. We faced some tough competition on the night but we feel genuinely blessed that the judges took the time out that they did to look at our evidence and be able to say that we were worthy winners.
The love we’ve received since the win has been incredibly touching and we’re thrilled to say that even more businesses have since been in touch to ask how they too can start to work with us. It’s humbling to be so connected to our community and to discover the sheer volume of people that are happy to get involved – the award was one thing, but we’re delighted at the additional doors it has opened for us too.
Last month also saw the start of our ‘Friend of the Month’ scheme which gives us an opportunity to say thank you to all of the amazing people that support us to shine a special light on what they do, not just for us but in their day-to-day running of their businesses too. First up was the amazing Michelle from And Marketing, without whom this website simply would not be possible. Michelle was also in the running for an award last month and it was great to share our success with her on the evening.
This month we’re celebrating the launch of The Howden Bathroom Company and you can currently see some of their awesome work on our social media sites.
We’d also like to give a quick shout out to Tom and the team at Filstorage who kindly donated a contactless card reader to the charity as well as funding our brand new leaflets which will soon be present at all of our events.
We were able to use the card reader for the first time during our recent involvement with the King’s Community Coronation Concert at Howden Minster. It was an absolute privilege to be invited to the event and we were even more delighted with our £495 collection on the night.
So that just about rounds up what has been a hectic couple of months for us. We’ll be back soon with more events including a stall at Howden Show on July 2, our summer music concert at the Howden Shire Hall on July 8, and we will also be hosting our first junior football tournament on June 29 & 30 so keep an eye out for details on that across our social media sites!
